On September 12, 2009 the first I ♥ MC-NC Gala & Silent Auction to benefit the Mary Claire Satterly Oncology Pediatric Playroom brought family, friends, and supporters together from all over the country. On a beautiful fall evening, over 400 guests filled a warm and playfully decorated Marbles Children Museum in Raleigh NC to raise awareness around the MCSF and spread "MCSpirit!". Thanks to the hard work of this year's MC-NC event committee, hosts, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and guests the Event was a true success, raising over $50,000!!!!

The cuisine, cocktails, and silent auction items were carefully selected to reflect some of Mary Claire's favorite things. MC's love for NC, beach music and her illustrious dance moves could not have been more perfectly represented while General Johnson and the Chairmen of the Board performed some of their greatest hits, specifically one of Mary Claire's favorite and so many others "Carolina Girls".

A brief program was held in the middle of the evening to thank our gracious sponsors, supporters, and share a few updates about the Foundation. Dr. Stuart Gold, Head of Pediatric Oncology at the New Lineberger Cancer Hospital spoke to the captivated audience around how the Mary Claire Satterly Pediatric Playroom has quickly become the "Heart" of the pediatric ward and is already proving children receiving treatment a place to remind themselves they are kids.

Before the music cranked back up and final bids were made on the amazing lineup of silent auction items, MC's loving parents, Chip and Joan Satterly presented a check on behalf of the Mary Claire Satterly Foundation to Dr. Gold for $100,000. This was the second $100,000 check (First presented last year during I ♥ MC-NY) given to the NC Cancer Hospital as a commitment to our first cause, MC's Playroom.

In typical MC fashion, the night of celebration and commitment to spread "MCspirit!" continued late into the evening.

On September 12, 2009, Mary Claire's friends and family will gather to celebrate her "MCSpirit!" at the second annual "I ♥ MC" event, a Gala and Silent Auction to benefit the Mary Claire Satterly Foundation and support its goal of establishing the Mary Claire Satterly Pediatric Oncology Playroom in the new UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, scheduled to open September 2009 in Chapel Hill, NC.

The Marbles Kids Museum will serve as the backdrop for the "I ♥ MC-NC Gala and Silent Auction". Given Mary Claire's love for children and the Foundation's goal of establishing the pediatric oncology playroom, there is no more fitting of a location to capture the spirit of the event. The evening will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, door prizes, gift bags and a silent auction while guests enjoy the entertainment of the legendary beach music band, General Johnson and the Chairmen of the Board.

Donations to the Mary Claire Satterly Foundation though ticket purchase to the "I ♥ MC-NC Gala & Silent Auction" are tax deductible as a charitable contribution above the face value of your ticket and will directly benefit the Mary Claire Satterly Pediatric Oncology Playroom at the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center. Individual Tickets are $100. (Ticket donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law minus $50.00 per individual Ticket) .

Why

To fulfill MC's wish to comfort children with cancer, the Foundation's first of many goals is to establish the Mary Claire Satterly Pediatric Oncology Playroom at the new UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill. In the heart of the much-anticipated pediatric oncology space, children will find an inviting playroom with MC's touch - her artwork and passions displayed throughout the room. There will be play areas for creativity, music (working on sharing MC's dance moves), and many educational toys and games. It will be here that children battling cancer can leave behind their worries and focus on just being kids - something so dear to MC!

The Gala is being held in Raleigh, NC at The Marbles Kids Museum located Downtown. The MCSF has a block of rooms being held at the Sheraton downtown, just roughly a mile away from the Museum.

It will be safe to leave your car overnight, so please take a cab if needed - do not drink and drive!
